Regulator Sets Out Clear 10 Years Plan

March 6, 2018

Ofgem is the UK’s electricity and gas networks regulator. Its main aim is to protect consumer interests.

“The Regulator’s RIIO (Revenue=Incentives + Innovation + Outputs) initiative details its plans for the next decade,” explains Lauren, Client Engagement Manager at Blumilk and team leader for the company’s work in the utility sector.

“In the energy sector, we’ve done a stack of work for National Grid, Northern Powergrid and SSEN in particular. It’s been both exciting and at times demanding. We’ve built a great reputation with our creativity and project management.”

Exciting and Demanding

“Projects we’ve done have stretched from customer involvement campaigns to risk management work, cyber security initiatives and internal communications. Even some truly great education programmes for school kids.”

RIIO is aimed at making the network companies put stakeholders at the heart of their decision-making process. As well as investing efficiently to ensure safe and reliable services.

Plus, taking action to cut costs for consumers. And, to deliver environmental objectives.

“At Blumilk we’re really proud of the work we’ve done particularly for utility businesses such as Northumbrian Water, Essex and Suffolk Water and SSEN, helping them improve their communication with stakeholders,” says Col Robertson, MD at Blumilk.

Spotlight on Seven Companies

Seven energy companies are in the RIIO spotlight. National Grid owns the high voltage electricity network in England and Wales. And, Scottish Power Transmissions and SSEN the two networks that supply Scotland.

National Grid Gas (NGG), Scotia Gas Network (SGN), Northern Gas Networks (NGN) and Wales & West Utilities (WWU) operate the gas distribution networks across the whole of Britain.
