Blumilk Kick Off Relationship By Creating Diabolus Beer Label Design For The Craft ‘Explorer’ Market
We were very happy when Elly Bell, Managing Director of The Durham Brewery commissioned us to create a label design that would attract new markets. Starting off with their premium, special, Diabolus, which has put hairs on the chest of our accounts team! The essence of Durham Brewery is based on always trying to develop new beers and tastes, some of these based in very traditional recipes. However, their drinkability is always the first priority.
The oaked aged Russian stout is their own innovation, matured in hogshead whiskey barrels for 14 months, producing an extremely dark ruby colour. The taste experience is a whisky, port, sherry and beer rolled into one! The brewery does a number of seasonal and special beers which are ranked by beer fans as very high quality indeed.
The brewery is highly regarded in the artisan beer market and it’s heritage designs of it’s core range are successful in their own right. Elly is now looking at opening that success to a younger audience and especially amongst the craft ‘explorer’ market.
The contemporary label design feels high end. The bold white stripes and transparent label allows the beer to contrast through, becoming apart of the key part of the artwork.
The oldest brewery in Durham, established 1994, and a pioneer of the light-hoppy style of bitters, they have consistently grown their portfolio of delicious beers. From light bitter to dark stout, wheat beer to Bavarian lagerbier they lead the way in quality and diversity. Steve, their head brewer, ensures that all styles are made authentically, cutting no corners and constantly renewing plant and machinery for the highest quality.
Despite all their years, the family owned brewery is still small, preferring to concentrate on perfecting beers rather than manufacturing volume. Great care is taken to let the beer mature as it must. The results speak volumes – they have local, national and international awards.
