Elegant Packaging Design for Gilchesters Organics
March 22, 2017
Simple yet elegant packaging design for Gilchesters Organics new rye flour product.
Gilchester’s initially came to Blumilk eight years ago with the need for packaging design which would enable them to enter into the next chapter of their family-run company. As purveyors of heritage grains, Gilchester Organics understand, as they put it, that “quality is not a coincidence, it is the result of a considerable effort.”
Situated two miles north of Hadrian’s Wall, they are a family run business that combines the art of traditional milling with natural quality grains where they mill their stoneground heritage grains. The organic farming methods allow them to produce the food people want, in harmony with the beautiful Northumberland surroundings.
Since 2009, we have also helped position the family business by creating a brand style that would match their organic grains product. From flour bags to biscuit boxes, the products have been launched successfully into stores offering quality groceries including Waitrose. We developed a bespoke illustrative style for Gilchesters Organics packaging design. This could be easily built-on as we used a considered colour palette that could be expanded with future products.
The new rye flour packaging needed to promote the organic and sustainable ethics of Gilchesters, which is why we created the approach of single colour ink applied direct on a recycled ‘kraft’ style stock. The purple allowed sufficient contrast whilst still working alongside the tones we have created for the other products which can be seen here.
Gilchesters Organics have had a great deal of success with their second e-commerce website that we developed and delivered for the family last year. From regional success, they have grown to gain a national share in the market with particular success in supplying high profile restaurants around the UK and especially in London.
We have another packaging design project that we are currently working on. Until then please feel free to watch their recent rise to stardom on BBC’s show – Hairy Bikers.
