Celebrating 20 years of critical care in our region
Founded in 2002, The Great North Air Ambulance Service are an award winning charity who are proud to have responded to more than 23,500 incidents, over an 8,000 square mile coverage area with an average cost of £5,000 for each call out. The service can receive over 25 call-outs in a single week. They bring the hospital to the patient, either in their vans or helicopter, giving patients the best chance possible of survival. The Service is 100% reliant on public donations, with an annual cost of £6.7m.
In recent years they have been able to expand their locational reach across a wider geographical area, with plans to become a 24/7 service in 2023. The charity currently operates 2 x helicopters (one at their Cumbria base and the other at the Stockton headquarters) and a number of critical care cars to respond to the most critically ill or injured people in the region.
GNAAS are also the leading provider of PHEM (pre-hospital emergency medicine) training to medical professionals across the globe. With a range of real life scenarios including RTC’s, child incidents, chest trauma, day and night training, and much more, it’s no wonder people travel from all corners of the world to develop their skillsets.
On Saturday the 15th of October, the Great North Air Ambulance Service are celebrating the provision of 20 years of critical care in the North East with their very own special evening charity Birthday Ball.
The event itself, comprises a charity auction with TV personality Charles Hanson as auctioneer, bringing his expert buzz and energy to help raise as much money as possible auctioning a wide variety of lots generously donated by their many wonderful supporters in the region including Husqvarna, ITV Tyne Tees, Eshott Airfield and Ramsdens Jewellery. Alongside the auction is a 3-course dinner, raffle, stories from GNAAS patients and staff and plenty of entertainment, all in aid of raising as much money as possible to continue to keep the charity flying.

GNAAS said:
“At a time when the economic conditions are looking tough, we need all the help we can get to overcome the challenges ahead. Blumilk is helping us reach new supporters who we need to help us continue to serve the region, as we have throughout this crisis so far.”
We wish them all the very best for a successful fund raising evening, and look forward to supporting them with the promotion of their second birthday ball on the 5th of November in Cumbria.
